Whitman-Hanson Regional announced this morning the hiring of Dave Rowell as its new head girls lacrosse coach, replacing Megan Methven, who left the post earlier this year to join the women's basketball coaching staff at Assumption College.
Here is the full release from W-H Athletic Director Bob Rodgers:
Whitman-Hanson Regional High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Dave Rowell as the new girls varsity lacrosse coach. Rowell, who is in his 6th year teaching Science at Whitman-Hanson, replaces Megan Methven who resigned this summer to accept an assistant basketball coaching position at Stonehill College.
“We are excited to have Dave join our coaching staff. Anytime you can get a teacher in the building who has the experience and expertise to take over a program it is a huge benefit to the students,” Whitman-Hanson Athletic Director Bob Rodgers said. “Since the first day Dave arrived on campus, he has had a rapport with our students that inspires enthusiasm. I fully expect that to translate to the athletic field as well.”
Rowell served as a high school assistant coach in Redondo Beach, California for 2 years. “When I was in California, I loved my time coaching lacrosse but with a young family at home I had to prioritize so I had to step away. Now that my kids are a little older, I am excited to get back on the field. Seeing student-athletes develop in practice and take that into competition is very rewarding,” Rowell said. He was named Teacher of the Year by the students of Whitman-Hanson in 2010. In addition to taking over the lacrosse coaching duties, Rowell will also join new girls basketball coach Jenna Olem’s staff as the girl’s freshmen coach.
