First-year Boston University head coach Joe Jones landed his first commitment on Wednesday night with the pledge of Choate-Rosemary Hall (Conn.) shooting guard John Papale, ESPN.com recruiting coordinator Adam Finkelstein reported.

After a stellar summer circuit playing with the prestigious New England Playaz AAU squad, Papale held over 23 Division I offers -- including UMass, Rhode Island, Iona and Fairfield -- before deciding on the Terriers.

"First and foremost, BU is an excellent school and the opportunity to receive a world-class education in a great city like Boston is a situation I feel great about," Papale told Finkelstein's New England Recruiting Report. "From a basketball standpoint, I feel really comfortable with Coach Jones and the entire staff and feel confident that I can come in and make a significant impact right away towards helping the program succeed."

Papale is currently rated a two-star prospect in ESPNU's database, with the following evaluation:

Strengths:
Papale is a perimeter sniper who is virtually automatic from behind the three-point line when allowed to step in to the catch and capable of making shots in bunches. He knows how to move without the ball and use screens, is very adept at attacking close-outs and scoring in the mid-range game, and a deceptively good finisher around the rim. He has a good nose for the ball off the glass and high basketball I.Q.

Weaknesses:
Papale is an only above average athlete who needs to add muscle and sculpt his physique. Defensively, he has to rely on angles to keep people in front of him but isn't able to pressure the ball away from the basket. Offensively, he needs to develop the swagger of a big time shooter and be more aggressive looking for small openings to get clean looks at the basket.

Bottom Line:
A big time shot maker with good size for the two-guard spot, Papale is far from a one trick pony thanks to a high basketball I.Q., well developed mid-range game, and his ability to rebound on the perimeter.
