Boston High School: Paul Seaver

Milford High School has tapped Canton assistant Paul Seaver as its next head coach of the boys basketball program.

Ryan Lanigan of Hockomock Sports was the first to report the news.

Seaver, 24, is a 2007 graduate of Milford High, and has spent the last three seasons as a varsity assistant at Canton High under his good friend Ryan Gordy. Last season, the Bulldogs went 13-7, their most successful campaign in nearly two decades.

He takes over for Jason Potty, who resigned recently after one disappointing 4-16 season. A season ago, in 2013-13, the Scarlet Hawks captured their first MIAA Division 1 Central title in 15 years, snapping St. John's five-year run as district champs in a thrilling final at WPI's Harrington Auditorium. Long-time head coach Steve Manguso resigned from the Milford post following the season.

Seaver's father, the late Paul "Wally" Seaver, started his coaching career at Milford High, as a JV coach, before heading Franklin High for a decade. Wally died in February 2013 after a two-year battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. Paul has since operated the popular Wally Seaver High School Invitational basketball tournament each summer, with all proceeds going to ALS research.

According to Lanigan, Seaver -- who turns 25 next week -- will be the youngest head coach in the Hockomock League next season.
