Franklin, Scituate enter boys' soccer poll

10/9/2014

The top seven teams all stayed the same this week. The first big change was at No. 8 with Brockton dropping down four spots following a defeat to unranked Xaverian. Medway continued its strong start to the season and jumped up into the top 10 as the top Division 3 team in the rankings. Ludlow also returned to the top 10 after a scoreless draw with West rival Amherst on Friday.

The big move up the rankings was made by Algonquin, which jumped five spots to No. 10 after another perfect week. Tyler Morin has provided the offensive punch for the Tomahawks this season, who will face a very difficult final stretch of the season beginning with next week's matchups against Shrewsbury and No. 11 Sutton. Algonquin will also have to face Wachusett, St. John's (Shrewsbury) and Westborough, which are all teams with winning records.

Two new teams have entered the rankings this week with league leaders Franklin and Scituate making their first appearances this season. Franklin has been unbeaten in its last 10 games and currently leads the Kelley-Rex division and is in search of its fourth straight league title. Scituate takes over the No. 20 spot after a big win over then No. 19 Pembroke that gave the Sailors the lead in the Fisher division of the Patriot League.

(Editor's note: This week's rankings do not reflect the forfeiture of 11 wins by Ludlow, which will inhibit the Lions from participating in the MIAA postseason tournament. Records are as of Wednesday. )
