Salvaggio switches commitment to UNH

Former Xaverian hockey standout Jason Salvaggio has given a verbal commitment to the University of New Hampshire. The news of Salvaggio's decision was passed along via the New England Nordiques club team's Twitter account today.

Salvaggio, a Hanson native, previously committed to UConn in October, but recently reopened his recruitment.

The 5-foot-11, 187-pound left-shot forward skated with the Selects Advantage AAA team last year and was ranked 97th among North American skaters on the NHL Central Scouting's final rankings report ahead of the 2013 Draft.

The Over the Boards hockey blog reported that Salvaggio visited a host of Hockey East schools after de-committing, including UMass, Merrimack, Providence and Vermont, before choosing UNH.
St. John's Prep standout and soon-to-be NHL Draft hopeful Brian Pinho led a deep pool of local skaters selected in Tuesday's "Phase 2" of the United States Hockey League's Draft.

Pinho was one of 13 skaters with ties to MIAA hockey who were taken on the day, including 10 who played for member schools last season.

Bellingham's Starrett commits to BU

Selects Academy (Conn.) and former Catholic Memorial goaltender Shane Starrett announced his verbal commitment to Boston University on Sunday via his Twitter account.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound netminder and Bellingham native is a 1994 birthdate and believed to land with the Terriers for the 2014-15 season.

Starrett was ranked 35th among North American goaltenders on the NHL Central Scouting's Midterm rankings in January. He has posted a 24-12-4 record and a 91.5 save percentage with the U-18 Selects Academy squad.
