Moss, Warren, Light among missing at practice

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Evidently, Derrick Burgess doesn't drive a very hard bargain.

At his first practice since officially re-signing with the New England Patriots, Junior Seau wore his familiar No. 55 on the lower practice field outside Gillette Stadium, apparently prying the jersey number away from Burgess (who had No. 55 above his locker stall this morning).

Burgess originally wore No. 49 when he joined the Patriots, but switched to Seau's old number before the start of the regular season. He wore No. 53 at practice.

LT Matt Light, WR Randy Moss, DE Ty Warren, and RB Fred Taylor were absent from the portion of Wednesday's practice open to the media, which included stretching and position drills.

Light is nursing a right knee injury sustained in Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos. He was spotted on crutches Monday in the locker room and those same supports were leaning in his locker during today's media availability.

Moss also missed practice last Wednesday and, as was the case then, he was spotted in the locker room before today's session looking healthy.

Warren did not appear to suffer an injury in Sunday's loss to Denver and played in 31 of 77 snaps (a number that's in the range of his normal number of snaps; he played 34 of 70 the week before versus the Ravens). More on Warren might be gleaned from the week's first injury/participation report that will be distributed later Wednesday.

Taylor underwent ankle surgery last week and is expected to miss considerable time.
