FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- After the Patriots' 27-17 victory over the Dolphins, head coach Bill Belichick shook hands with Miami coach Tony Sparano and then stayed on the field in search of someone else.
Soon enough, it was clear whom Belichick was looking for: veteran defensive end Jason Taylor.
Belichick and Taylor had spoken over the offseason about the possibility of Taylor signing with the Patriots. In the end, family considerations led Taylor back to Miami.
Belichick and Taylor shared an embrace and some words on the field before heading to their respective locker rooms.
"We talked, and obviously over the years it's been very evident the respect I have for this whole organization and for Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and the guys on the team," Taylor said. "We exchanged pleasantries and the rest is between us."
