FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Quarterback Tom Brady has been selected as the Patriots’ 2009 Ed Block Courage Award winner.

The award honors players who exemplify commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and courage. Every NFL team selects a player for the award, and there is an annual awards ceremony in March.

Brady, who has come back from torn left knee ligaments that ended his 2008 season on the team’s 15th offensive play, was asked Wednesday about his thoughts on the adversity he has overcome.

“I think it’s been a very rewarding year in a lot of senses,” he responded. “Obviously, it’s fun to be back here playing with my teammates and it’s something I missed out on last year. And to be in the playoff hunt, our goals are still ahead of us and we have some great opportunities.

“Like all of us, I’ve battled some adversities and all of my teammates have too, so it’s really just part of what this profession is. A lot of it is being mentally tough and bouncing back from things that don’t necessarily go our way and then being able to just continue to respond.”
