Patriots owner Robert Kraft addressed the Kentucky men’s basketball team after its victory over Florida on Tuesday night in Gainesville. The behind-the-scenes moment was captured on Wildcats coach John Calipari’s official web site, CoachCal.com.
Calipari reviews some of the big plays of the game with his players, before saying: “I have a good friend of mine here today, Mr. Kraft, who owns the New England Patriots. When I was up in Massachusetts, we became good friends. They had world championships and changed an entire organization, and did it by bringing in good people.”
Calipari then brought Kraft in front of the players, who were still in uniform and gave him a round of applause. Kraft congratulated the players on a tough road win, before saying:
“Spending time with Coach Cal, we share a similar philosophy. If you want to win, it’s about having good people around you. When the pressure is on, somebody steps up. It’s about the team, nobody cares about credit; they care in the end who wins, the team. That’s the culture we try to create and I know that’s the culture that Coach Cal does. It’s all about good people. …
"You have something very special here. I’ll tell you this, because we had a special run. It doesn’t go forever. Keep working your tails off, stay together as a unit, and don’t let anyone cause division from within this group because you could do something really special.”
