When the Patriots are on the clock with the 22nd overall pick in the draft, would they select Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes if he is still on the board?
Chad Reuter of NFLDraftscout.com thinks so. In his most recent mock draft, Reuter slotted Spikes to the Patriots at 22.
“He can play inside and outside and I think they can use help at those positions,” Reuter said in a phone interview. “With the eye-gouging stuff, I’m not sure if he is the kind of guy they will want to select, but when you look back at Brandon Meriweather in 2007 they showed they aren’t afraid to go there with a player who had a one-time incident. Whether it’s Spikes or a different player, I think the front seven is obviously an area they will focus on early in the draft, whether it’s a linebacker or one of the bigger defensive ends to pick up the slack after [Richard] Seymour was traded.”
