Another day, another mock draft to consider. AOL Fanhouse has produced its first writers mock draft, and with the 22nd overall pick, the Patriots were slotted Tennessee defensive lineman Dan Williams.
"This area of the draft screams trade down for the Patriots, because someone will be in love with a dropping player," writes Josh Alper. "If they make the pick, they'll have to think about replacing the sure to depart Vince Wilfork and Williams fits the bill better than anyone else on the board. He's a strong space-eater who should clog rushing lanes to make playoff embarrassments like Ray Rice handed out a lot less likely."
ANALYSIS: Bill Belichick once made the point that if you have the chance to select a big, physical defensive lineman, it's not a bad way to go because players with those characteristics are rare. Some might look at his drafting history -- Richard Seymour (No. 6, 2001), Ty Warren (No. 13, 2003), Vince Wilfork (No. 21, 2004) and Ron Brace (No. 40, 2009) -- as a reflection of that line of thinking. I'm not as pessimistic that Wilfork will depart, although planning for that surely must be part of the team's thinking.
