The following question was raised today on ESPNBoston.com: Is this the most important draft in Bill Belichick's 11 years at the Patriots helm?

The general premise of the piece is that with several needs, a weak free-agent crop to fill them, and four of the draft's top 53 picks, the Patriots have a chance to come out of this draft with four impact players. It's a golden opportunity.

The opportunity is highlighted when looking at a draft value chart.

ESPN.com NFC West reporter Mike Sando goes through the first two rounds of the draft and lists all the point totals, and the Patriots have the eighth-highest point total (2,030) in the NFL. As the chart shows, the Patriots are the only team in the NFL with four picks in the first two rounds.

While the value chart is not flawless -- it doesn't take into account economic considerations -- it still provides a general look at which teams have the most valuable chips to use.

The Patriots find themselves in a power position.
