In writing on the Patriots' gaping void at tight end for ESPNBoston.com, and highlighting some of the team's poor decision-making at the position, the question was asked: What's next for the team at tight end?
The good news for the Patriots is that this year's draft is considered deep at the position. The bad news is that the unrestricted free-agent crop is weak, and there should be "buyer-beware" signs attached to most of the available talent, including Alge Crumpler, who visited with the team earlier this week.
A trade is also something that could be in the cards, but few teams are shopping top tight ends.
Based on the present picture, the importance of the team coming out of the draft with one of the top tight ends has been heightened.
