FOXBOROUGH – It looks like the New England Patriots will be visiting the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving. Cornerback Leigh Bodden is one of the few Patriots to have a recent experience playing on Thanksgiving, as he suited up for the Lions in 2008.
The memory wasn’t a good one, as the Lions were en route to an 0-16 regular season while taking a 47-10 pounding from the Titans.
“Growing up as a kid, you watch that game and you want to play on Thanksgiving,” Bodden said. “I got to do it, but it wasn’t that great in Detroit. Hopefully if we play them this Thanksgiving, I can be on the winning end of it.”
Bodden didn't feel it was unusual to be playing on Thanksgiving.
“To me, a game is a game – no matter if it’s Sunday, Thursday, Monday,” he said.
Bodden is taking part in the Patriots’ offseason program after signing a reported four-year, $22 million contract. Asked if he plans to buy anything after signing the deal, Bodden said he has no plans to do so.
“I’m into saving. I’m definitely going to save,” Bodden said, reflecting on how he always saved money from delivering the Washington Post as a youngster. “Maybe later down the road, I’ll get something for myself, but it’s really for my family and me last.”
