Steviet0202 commented on the previous blog entry, noting that a position listing of the Patriots’ past first-round picks would be more meaningful if it was accompanied by an assessment of the team’s current needs.

Here is my opinion as to how I would rank the Patriots’ current needs:

High
Defensive end
Outside linebacker
Punter
Tight end
Wide receiver

Moderate
Center
Cornerback
Guard
Inside linebacker
Running back

Low
Kicker
Long snapper
Nose tackle
Offensive tackle
Quarterback
Safety

EXTRA POINT: Commenter Eiondeb, on the previous update, was curious the breakdown of first-round picks in the Bill Belichick era. Belichick has taken five defensive players in the first round and four on offense. As for the position breakdown, it looks like this: Defensive line (3), tight end (2), offensive line (1), running back (1), safety (1), linebacker (1).
