The Patriots announced the signing of free-agent running back Chris Taylor today, giving the team another layer of depth at a position that was not addressed in the NFL draft.
Taylor is a long-shot to earn a roster spot, as he fills the seventh spot on the team's depth chart behind Laurence Maroney, Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Pat Paschall.
Taylor (6-0, 224 pounds) was originally signed by the Patriots last August, but injured his shoulder in training camp and spent the season on injured reserve.
Taylor entered the NFL in 2006 with the Houston Texans as a rookie free agent out of Indiana. He has played in seven games, totaling 160 rushing yards with one touchdown, while catching three passes for 40 yards.
