FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Patriots nose tackle Vince Wilfork is a regular at Boston Celtics games. Naturally, he’s excited about the team preparing to face the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals.
“I’m a huge Celtics fan and I’m rooting for those guys,” Wilfork said, declining to make a prediction. “I think they have a shot. They’re in the ‘Big Dance’ – good luck to them. I’m sure Doc [Rivers] will have those guys ready to roll.”
Wilfork, who rates guard Rajon Rondo as one of his favorites on the current team, was asked about his rooting interest in the Celtics.
“I grew up a Celtics fan, watching Larry Bird and those guys. Kevin McHale, Chief [Robert] Parish. I watched it, and just loved the Green,” he said.
Asked the key to the series for the Celtics, Wilfork put on his analysts hat.
“Bench and defense,” he said. “That’s going to be the key. That’s the key to any championship.”
Wilfork is not sure if he will attend any games.
“I have to take care of priorities first, and that’s my job,” he said. “If I feel comfortable enough to leave, I’ll go.”
