Some clarity to injury situation

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots switched into regular-season mode for their lone practice on Monday. Members of the media were allowed on the field only for stretching and individual drills. The practice was held in full pads.

Bodden, McGowan, Edelman highlight missing players. Not spotted at the practice were defensive linemen Darryl Richard and Brandon Deaderick; cornerbacks Leigh Bodden and Terrence Wheatley; wide receiver Julian Edelman; safeties Brandon McGowan, Bret Lockett, and Josh Barrett; and offensive lineman Nick Kaczur. Richard, Deaderick, Bodden and McGowan all played in Thursday’s preseason game against the Rams but were not visibly injured. Wheatley left the game with what appeared to be an ankle/foot injury.

Five players in shorts. Five players were on the field but not in uniform for the opening of the practice. These players included defensive linemen Ron Brace and Myron Pryor; outside linebacker Jermaine Cunningham; tight end Aaron Hernandez; and cornerback Kyle Arrington. Brace and Pryor both played in Thursday’s preseason game against the Rams, with Brace leaving early due to an ankle injury.

Slater and Jenkins return. Wide receivers Matthew Slater and Darnell Jenkins, who missed the last several weeks of training camp due to injury, were both in uniform on the practice fields on Monday afternoon. Additionally, linebacker Eric Alexander and offensive lineman George Bussey, both of whom did not play in Thursday’s preseason game against the Rams, were also in uniform for the practice.

Meriweather present. Safety Brandon Meriweather was in uniform for the start of Monday’s practice and did not appear to be limited by a leg injury which he suffered in Thursday’s preseason game against the Rams.
