New England Patriots starters are expected to play tonight in the preseason finale against the New York Giants, coach Bill Belichick told New York radio station WFAN this afternoon.

Quarterback Tom Brady has not played in the last six preseason finales, so this is a change in the decision-making process.

This could be tied to the team’s subpar performance last Thursday against the Rams in a 36-35 loss that disappointed Belichick.

Veteran offensive lineman Matt Light said Tuesday that he expected to play tonight.

“We’re going to go out there and play,” Light said. “The starters will go out there and we’ll fire it up. To what extent, Bill [Belichick] will let us know. But hopefully we’ll go out there and start faster than we did a week ago.”
