In a surprise, veteran defensive lineman Jarvis Green has been informed that he won't be part of the Denver Broncos' initial 53-man roster.

This opens the possibility that he could return to New England.

The Patriots' depth at defensive end took a hit during training camp when starter Ty Warren (hip) was placed on season-ending injured reserve. The team also released veteran Damione Lewis on Friday.

Green, who played for the Patriots the last eight seasons, signed a free-agent deal with the Broncos in the offseason. The Patriots were still open to bringing him back at the time, but the Broncos' upped the price to a level that was out of the Patriots' reach.

So as Bill Belichick considers all the "moving parts" as he puts together the team's 53-man roster, the possibility of a Green return is one that figures to draw consideration.
