The Patriots have informed second-year center/guard Rich Ohrnberger that he will be waived by today's roster deadline.

Ohrnberger started at right guard in the preseason finale in what looked to be a final audition for a roster spot. Coach Bill Belichick said Ohrnberger did a "good solid job" against top competition, but it wasn't enough for him to stick on the roster.

The Patriots had made an aggressive move to draft Ohrnberger in the fourth round last year. They traded cornerback Ellis Hobbs for two fifth-round picks, and then flipped the fifth-round picks to move into the fourth round for Ohrnberger.

With Ohrnberger informed that he is being waived, that shines the spotlight on center/guards Ted Larsen and Ryan Wendell, who were part of the competition for a backup role.
