EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- A look at three players/units whose performance was up, and three players/units whose performance was down in the Patriots' 28-14 loss to the Jets:

Up
Jermaine Cunningham --
Making the difficult transition from college defensive end to NFL outside linebacker, he doesn't look out of place (2 tackles) and holds his ground to make a tackle on his first play, which was a direct snap to receiver Brad Smith.

Aaron Hernandez -- Rookie tight end finishes with six catches for a team-high 101 yards, helping shift momentum with two big catch-and-run plays.

Gerard Warren -- Starting at right defensive end, the veteran delivers two crunching sacks of Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.

Down
Tom Brady --
After a strong first-half performance, he struggles in the second half with two interceptions and losing a strip sack as the Patriots gain just 80 net yards of offense in the final 30 minutes.

Darius Butler -- Another tough day for the second-year cornerback, who was in position to make plays on the ball but had technique breakdowns as he was beaten for a touchdown and two-point conversion, and also had two costly penalties.

Stephen Gostkowski -- Kicker misses a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter, which came after the snap-hold-kick operation was penalized for delay of game on a 32-yard attempt that was successful.
