Players had a day off Tuesday and return to Gillette Stadium today to begin preparations for their road game against the Dolphins on "Monday Night Football."
One lingering question is whether they will be welcoming a new teammate to the fold.
The Patriots have an open spot on their 53-man roster after waiving developmental offensive tackle Steve Maneri on Monday. Maneri cleared waivers Tuesday and could return to the club's practice squad.
"We worked out a couple other players and talked about a few other possibilities. So, somewhere here in the next few days, we’ll make a decision and kind of rework the roster," Belichick said on a Tuesday conference call when asked about the 53rd roster spot. "I’m sure we’ll add somebody by the end of the week. Just the timing on that one, we’ll have to wait and see how it goes."
This is the third straight week the Patriots have entered a week with an open spot on the roster.
In Week 2, they surprised with the signing of free-agent running back Danny Woodhead.
Last week, they promoted outside linebacker Shawn Crable from the practice squad.
Both moves were made at the last possible moment, by the Saturday 4 p.m. deadline.
