Pats close to top of NFL in IR'd players

When the Patriots placed offensive lineman Nick Kaczur on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday, it marked the ninth time since training camp began July 29 that the team has lost a player for the year because of injury.

That puts the Patriots among the league leaders in a category no NFL team wants to be leading.

By one count, only the Jacksonville Jaguars (11) have placed more players on IR this year. That count does not include players who were placed on injured reserve but later received an injury settlement to make them free agents (e.g. Torry Holt in New England).

Of the nine Patriots players placed on IR, five projected to be on the 45-man game-day roster on a week-to-week basis. Those players are bolded below:

S Josh Barrett

CB Leigh Bodden

RB Kevin Faulk

OL Nick Kaczur

S Bret Lockett

S Brandon McGowan

DL Darryl Richard

DE Ty Warren

DL Kade Weston

A few other teams that stand out on the IR charts are the Colts (9), who are tied with the Patriots, and the Jets (3).
