FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- San Diego Chargers coach Norv Turner told reporters today on a conference call that he is hopeful tight end Antonio Gates will play Sunday against the Patriots.
Gates, the Chargers' leading receiver, left Sunday's loss to the Rams with a left toe injury.
"We truly are on a day-to-day [situation]," Turner said. "I don't anticipate Antonio practicing today. I hope he can get some work tomorrow. That would help a great deal in terms of clearing up where he's at. It's a day-to-day thing and right now I'm just hopeful he would be able to play. Obviously you [also] have to make plans if he was not able to play."
