SAN DIEGO -- Patriots players were asked the following question after their 23-20 win over the Chargers: What was the reaction in the locker room -- relief or celebration?
A sampling of their answers:
Linebacker Jerod Mayo: “It’s a big mixture. Relief. Disappointment. Excitement. We’re glad to get the win. We played three-and-a-half quarters of pretty good football [as a defense]. Just couldn’t finish it like we wanted to. But we got the win and we’ll take it.”
Defensive lineman Vince Wilfork: “The mood is that we won the ballgame in San Diego, on the road, against a San Diego team that last time we came out here they embarrassed us. So we’re very proud of walking away with the W. Things could have been better at times, but you know what? At the end of the day, we got the W.”
Safety Brandon Meriweather: “It was a little bit of everything. You are always happy with a win, but the defense thinks we can play better, get off the field a little more in the fourth quarter, and do all the little things.”
Safety James Sanders: “It's good. It shows that we are a mentally tough team. We played in a hostile environment. They have a lot of good players on their team, even though they had some down. We made the plays at the end that we needed to make to win the game."
