Each week, ESPN.com's Mike Sando compiles an "MVP Watch" on his NFC West blog.

After putting Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in the No. 5 spot last week, Sando now has him at No. 1, taking over the top spot from Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.

Writes Sando, "Football has become such a game of precision and execution on offense. It's tougher for quarterbacks to play with raw emotion. The fire Brady showed in leading the Patriots past the Steelers was refreshing. The Patriots seem to be responding to Brady's leadership and forming an identity that could serve them well in postseason. Brady also has 13 more TDs than INTs, the best disparity in the league."
