FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Linebacker Pierre Woods' contract to re-join the Patriots is a two-year pact, which opens the possibility that his return could extend into the 2011 season.
Woods is scheduled to earn a base salary of $630,000 this season (prorated over the final seven weeks), and a base salary of $640,000 next season.
While NFL contracts aren't guaranteed, and Woods could be cut at any time, the two-year deal could be viewed as a sign that the Patriots view Woods as more than just a stop-gap to help address present concerns on special teams.
Woods had been working as a groundskeeper at his alma mater, the University of Michigan, when he received the call from the Patriots.
