FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots today announced that cornerback Jonathan Wilhite has been placed on injured reserve with a hip/hamstring injury. The team also confirmed the signing of veteran defensive lineman Louis Leonard, after he agreed to terms yesterday.
Wilhite, now in his third NFL season, had missed the last four games with the injury. Second-year cornerback Darius Butler has largely replaced Wilhite in his role as slot cornerback.
The signing of Leonard (jersey No. 66) will provide depth along the defensive line, which has been thinned recently after injuries to Mike Wright (concussion), Myron Pryor (back), and Ron Brace (head). Also, veteran defensive lineman Gerard Warren missed time in Sunday's win over the Bears with a knee injury, although he returned in the second half.
Meanwhile, the Patriots' cornerback depth chart now has Devin McCourty, Kyle Arrington, Darius Butler and Chevis Jackson.
