In a sign that some of their injured defensive linemen might be close to a return, the Patriots waived defensive lineman Louis Leonard today, according to a league source.

Leonard had been signed last Wednesday when the team had short-term depth concerns on the line with Gerard Warren (knee), Ron Brace (concussion), Myron Pryor (back) and Mike Wright (concussion) all on the injury report.

Of the group, only Warren played Sunday night against the Packers.

Leonard was active for the Patriots' win Sunday night, but did not play on defense, only as a member of the field-goal block unit.
