Safety Brandon Meriweather's $50,000 fine for flagrant hits against the Baltimore Ravens in an Oct. 17 game has been reduced to $40,000, the NFL confirmed. Meriweather had appealed the fine.
NFL appeals officer Ted Cottrell said he reduced the fine because Meriweather understood the rules and has made an effort to adjust techniques to play within the rules that protect player safety. Cottrell also reduced fines for Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson and Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison.
Judy Battista of the New York Times first reported the reduction in the fine.
