Wilhite's salary jumps to $1.2m

Fourth-year cornerback Jonathan Wilhite's base salary increases from $550,000 to $1.2 million for the 2011 season, a result of him reaching incentives in the first three years of the deal.

A fourth-round draft choice in 2008, Wilhite played 16 games in his rookie season, with four starts. In 2009, he played in 14 games, with eight starts.

This past season, Wilhite played in nine games (1 start) before being placed on season-ending injured reserve Dec. 15 with a hip/hamstring injury.

Next season marks the final season of the four-year contract Wilhite signed as a rookie. This past season, coaches seemed to view his best fit in the slot and as a special teams contributor.

The Patriots have 2010 first-round pick Devin McCourty, veteran Leigh Bodden (returning from injury), Kyle Arrington, Darius Butler, Wilhite, Tony Carter and Thad Turner returning at cornerback.
