When catching up with Pat Kirwan of Sirius NFL Radio at the Super Bowl, he identified Arizona defensive end/outside linebacker Brooks Reed as one possibility to boost the Patriots' pass rush. Kirwan liked what he saw from Reed at the Senior Bowl.
That put Reed on our radar at the NFL Combine over the last few days, so when Reed visited the media center on Saturday, his visit with reporters was captured by our own Mike Rodak.
Now comes a recap of Reed's performance in drills from Todd McShay, Kevin Weidl and Steve Muench of ESPN's Scouts Inc (Insider content):
"Arizona DE Brooks Reed looked explosive without losing body control when forced to change directions and he's shown on film that he can drop into underneath coverage. His lower body flexibility when asked to bend around cones or bags was a notch below elite but still above-average. He could play end in a four-man front or move to outside linebacker in a 3-4 front."
If the Patriots don't target an outside linebacker in the first round, Reed looks like a prospect who could draw attention in the ensuing rounds.
