Welker and elite NFL receivers

If you were ranking the top receivers in the NFL, where would you put Wes Welker?

That was one question that came to mind after looking over ESPN.com's "power ranking" at the receiver position, where Welker was slotted 11th. Voters selected their top 10 receivers and of the eight ballots, Welker showed up on just two.

Tough call.

Over the last four seasons, Welker has totaled an NFL-high 432 receptions. From 2007-2009, he had seasons with more than 100 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards, which only four other players have ever accomplished. Welker also has a streak of 87 straight games with at least one reception.

On the flip side, Welker's 2010 season wasn't as productive, with 86 receptions and double-digit dropped passes. Even he acknowledged that it wasn't his best season.

The top six receivers on the ESPN.com list are strong, but Welker could make a strong case to be in the 7-10 range.
