Don Banks of SI.com produces the third version of his mock draft and he gives the Patriots defensive end J.J. Watt (Wisconsin) at No. 17 and center/guard Mike Pouncey (Florida) at No. 28.
Banks, in his second mock draft, had the Patriots going with defensive end Cameron Jordan (California) at No. 17 and receiver Torrey Smith (Maryland) at No. 28.
With Watt, Banks writes: "The Patriots will be fortunate if the first-round board breaks this way, because Watt is considered the draft's best five-technique 3-4 defensive end, with both run-stopping and pass-rushing skills in his game."
On Pouncey, Banks writes: "Building from the lines out is never a bad approach in the draft."
ANALYSIS: As Banks noted, this draft would likely result in some "A-Plus" thoughts from analysts. One common thread from the Patriots' last three playoff losses is that they haven't consistently won the battle at the line of scrimmage. This could be a step in that direction.
