NEW ORLEANS -- Just a few moments ago, Patriots coach Bill Belichick and former Patriots Vice President of Player Personnel Scott Pioli (now Chiefs general manager) were chatting in a hallway here at the Roosevelt, which is hosting the NFL's annual meeting.
Approached by a reporter, they were asked, "Does this place bring back memories?"
They both smiled, needing no reminder that this was the Patriots' hotel prior to Super Bowl XXXVI when the team pulled off one of the greatest upsets in NFL history, beating the St. Louis Rams 20-17.
Nine years later, here they were again, attending meetings in some of the same rooms the Patriots occupied before the Super Bowl.
Belichick and Pioli then headed off together, but not before Belichick turned around and revised one answer from his prior gathering with reporters. The favorite part of his offseason?
"Pebble Beach," he said. "Definitely Pebble Beach."
