FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots selected Marshall tight end Lee Smith with their second fifth-round pick (159th overall).
At 6-foot-5, 266 pounds, Smith is one of the bigger tight ends in this year's class. The Pro Football Weekly draft preview calls him "a physical line-of-scrimmage blocker who could readily help a power running game as a No. 2 blocking tight end and bring leadership to a locker room."
A two-time team captain, he has also served as a backup long snapper.
Smith is married and has two children. His father, the late Daryle Smith, played offensive tackle for the Cowboys, Browns and Eagles from 1987-1992.
Smith totaled a career high 38 catches last season. Over his four seasons at Marshall, he totaled 75 receptions.
