FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Offensive lineman Marcus Cannon held a conference call with reporters after he was selected by the Patriots with the 138th overall selection. Most questions dealt with Cannon's recent diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

"At first it just came at an exam at the Combine," he said. "One of the team ordered a biospy and [it] confirmed that something was wrong."

The 6-foot-5, 358-pound Cannon said that the diagnosis hasn't been as emotional as he expected.

"God has kept us pretty settled, pretty patient," he said. "Everything has been taken care of."

Cannon said that he "feels awesome" after undergoing his first treatment on Thursday.

"God's blessed me," he said. "I haven't had any of the symptoms of my treatment that I was supposed to have."

He does not know when the treatment will be finished.

"I'm just taking my treatment day-by-day, and whenever I'm done with my treatment is when I get to go play football," he said.
