One of the points that Bill Belichick made in his Saturday wrap-up draft news conference is that the picture is not yet complete.
"This is one step in the team-building process," he said. "I’m sure there will be others to come, but maybe not for a while. We’ll just have to wait and see."
The other steps are free agency and trades, and those can't happen until the current labor situation is resolved. But it's never too early to look ahead, and Jason La Canfora of NFL.com puts together a handy free-agent list that is a good reference for those wondering what players project to be available. La Canfora's list assumes that 2010 free-agency rules will be in effect.
If that is the case, the Patriots project to have running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis (2nd-round tender) and safety Jarrad Page (2nd-round tender) back as restricted free agents.
As for areas the Patriots might target in free agency, defensive line and outside linebacker are two strong candidates.
Mike Rodak's free-agent fit series, which was published in this Patriots blog in February, is another good reference.
