The Patriots Hall of Fame ceremony for quarterback Drew Bledsoe is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17 at Gillette Stadium. The date is later than the norm, as the ceremony has been held in August in three of the last four years.
By pushing the date back, to before the home opener against the Chargers, it sets up the possibility for larger crowds.
In 2008, the Patriots had the Hall ceremony before the Miami game Sept. 21, and the crowd was strong. That was the day the Dolphins sprung the Wildcat on the Patriots.
The September date also protects against the possibility that there are no preseason games.
