Illinois OLB/DE Clay Nurse will be joining the Patriots as an undrafted rookie free agent, reports Nurse on his Twitter account.
Nurse started 13 games at defensive end for the Illini last season, finishing with 23 tackles and four sacks.
At 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds, Nurse projects to outside linebacker in the Patriots' 3-4 defense. He will join an unsettled position that includes veterans Jermaine Cunningham, Rob Ninkovich, Eric Moore, and Marques Murrell, as well as 2011 sixth-round draft selection Markell Carter. In addition, veteran Tully Banta-Cain is under contract at the position, but has been informed of his release on Tuesday, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
