Former Patriot Corwin Brown hospitalized

Former Patriots coach and player Corwin Brown was taken from his home Friday night with a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a nearly seven-hour standoff, police said.

A story is now posted on ESPNBoston.com.

Brown was a fourth-round selection of the Patriots in 1993, and played for the club for four seasons. He moved on to the Jets, playing under Bill Belichick, for the 1997 and 1998 seasons, before finishing his NFL career with the Lions (1999-2000).

Brown was hired by the Patriots as defensive backs for the 2010 season -- a move lauded by the likes of safety Brandon Meriweather, who liked the idea of being led by a former player -- but was not retained for 2011.
