FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots on Saturday announced the signing of rookie free agent offensive lineman Zach Roth and the release of offensive lineman Chris Morris and defensive lineman Steve Williams.

Roth (6-foot-6, 319 pounds) played last season for Texas Christian, where he started ten games at right tackle. Fifth-round draft choice Marcus Cannon was the Horned Frogs' left tackle.

Morris was signed by the Patriots on Aug. 3 and did not play in Thursday night's preseason opener after suffering a lower left leg injury earlier in the week. Williams was signed on Jul. 30 and saw action on Thursday night at defensive tackle.

The release of Morris could be a good sign for the health of the interior offensive line, which has been without Dan Connolly and Ryan Wendell in recent practices. Roth will add depth to the tackle position.
