FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker has never felt better.

Earlier on Monday, Welker's work in training camp was noted by Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio, with Caserio saying Welker has been "real strong" and that it looks like he's regained some of his trademark quickness. After Monday's practice, Welker touched on his performance in camp, and made a surprising remark on his physical condition.

"This is the best I've felt in my career," he said. "I think my knowledge of the game and being able to be healthy, I think it's really helped."

When it was mentioned that players 30 years old are sometimes viewed as hitting the back nine of their careers, and that it was significant Welker said he feels like he's in the best condition of his career, Welker noted the hard work to put himself in this position.

"As long as you're working hard and getting better on a daily basis, there is no telling where the curve is as far as the backside of your career," he said. "For me, I feel like I'm still in my prime."

Welker enters the final year of his contract with the Patriots, and was asked if he's given any thought to his future here.

"Not really," he responded. "I'm just concentrating on the here and now, and whatever I can do to help the team win this year. That's where my full concentration is. ... I'm not really worried about that at all. I'm just worried about going out there and playing ball. I love playing on this team and I enjoy every day I'm out here. I'm going to let my play take care of everything else."
