The Patriots confirmed Friday night that they signed free-agent safety James Ihedigbo.
The UMass product had said on Twitter on Friday afternoon that he will be joining the team, although no official announcement had yet been made.
"Thanks to #jetsfans for all the love an support greatly appreciate it's on to a new chapter.....I'm Officially a New England Patriot!!!!!!," Ihedigbo tweeted.
A graduate of Amherst (Mass.) Regional High School, Ihedigbo was an unrestricted free agent after having spent the last four seasons with the Jets. He has played in 29 games over the past two seasons, recording a combined 41 tackles and five sacks.
Ihedigbo will join a safety position that has been hit by injuries to veterans James Sanders and Bret Lockett, leaving only three healthy safeties -- Brandon Meriweather, Patrick Chung, and Sergio Brown -- on the roster.
