Pats unlikely to see Vanden Bosch

The Patriots continue preparations for Saturday night's preseason game against the Lions. Here are a few quick hits:

1. Lions defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch, one of their top pass-rushers, is unlikely to play (shoulder), according to head coach Jim Schwartz. Running back Jahvid Best is also unlikely to play, Schwartz said.

2. The Lions announced a sellout on Tuesday night.

3. The game will be nationally televised on CBS with Greg Gumbel (play-by-play), Dan Dierdorf (analysis) and Lesley Visser (sideline) getting the call.

4. This marks the first preseason game between the teams since 2000. That game was at the old Pontiac Silverdome and was the second preseason game of Bill Belichick's first year as Patriots coach.

5. A few New England connections in the game: Former Northeastern/UMass offensive guard Greg Niland is on the Lions' roster. Also, quarterback Zac Robinson -- a 2010 seventh-round draft choice of the Patriots -- is on the Lions' roster as well.
