The Patriots worked out the following free agents, according to a league source:

DE Everette Brown
OL Quinn Ojinnaka
OL Donald Thomas
OL Pat McQuistan
DE Jeremy Jarmon
DE Carl Ihenacho

Brown entered the NFL as a second-round draft choice of the Carolina Panthers in 2009. At 6-foot-1, 256 pounds, he wasn't considered a great fit for the Patriots' 3-4 defense at outside linebacker, but could be a consideration now in a revamped defense that has opened the door for the team to look at more traditional 4-3 ends. Brown played in 28 games (3 starts) over the last two seasons, totaling six sacks.

The 27-year-old Ojinnaka is a familiar face as he spent the 2010 season with the team, appearing in eight games, mostly on the field-goal protection unit. The Patriots originally acquired Ojinnaka from the Atlanta Falcons last year for a seventh-round draft choice, and they elected not to tender him as a restricted free agent this offseason before the new collective bargaining agreement was struck. Ojinnaka, who has experience at guard and tackle, was in camp with the Rams this preseason and was released at the final roster cutdown.

Thomas, a guard, played his college ball at UConn and entered the NFL with the Dolphins in 2008 as a sixth-round draft choice. He played all 16 games in the 2009 season, with 12 starts. He was most recently with the Lions but hasn't played in an NFL game since 2009.

The 28-year-old McQuistan, a 6-foot-6, 319-pound offensive tackle, has played for the Cowboys (2006-2009) and Dolphins (2010), appearing in 56 games. The only eight starts of his career came last year in Miami.

Jarmon, 23, entered the NFL as a third-round supplemental draft choice of the Redskins in 2009. The 6-foot-3, 286-pound defensive end was traded to the Broncos this year for receiver Jabar Gaffney. He has played in 16 regular-season games, with one start.

The 23-year-old Ihenacho is a first-year player from San Jose State who was with the Chargers this year. The 6-foot-2, 255-pound defensive end/outside linebacker was released at the final cutdown. He has not appeared in an NFL regular-season game.
