FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Patriots coach Bill Belichick said the team has been told the dirt infield at O.co Coliseum in Oakland will be sodded over for Sunday's game against the Raiders.

The Oakland Athletics, who share the venue with the Raiders, played their final home game of the 2011 season on Thursday, but the dirt infield remained intact during Sunday's visit from the Jets.

Belichick said the team will lean heavy on equipment managers in regards to which type of cleat will work best on the surface. One week after dealing with a new turf field in Buffalo that some opponents had dubbed slippery, the Patriots will again have to evaluate the playing surface before Sunday's game to ensure the best footing.
