Patriots to wear white on Sunday

10/13/2011

In a change-up from the norm, the Patriots will wear their road white uniforms for Sunday's home game against the Cowboys at Gillette Stadium.

We first learned this from reading Todd Archer's blog entry on ESPNDallas, which notes this is the first time since Dec. 27, 2009 that the Cowboys will wear their navy jersey for a road game.

This is usually a topic that comes up when playing the Dolphins, as they sometimes alter their uniform choice early in the year to put the opposition in darker colors in hopes that it makes it harder for them to deal with heat.

There are no real weather considerations in the Patriots' choice this week. But as Archer noted, the Patriots also wore a different uniform in the Cowboys' last visit to Gillette, donning their now-extinct silver "third" jersey in a 12-0 win over the Bill Parcells-coached 'Boys. Because of that, the Cowboys were also in their navy blue that day.

According to a Patriots spokesman, the team recently has worn their red throwback jerseys in two games per season, but this season the team decided to don their white jerseys and red throwbacks for one home game each.
