FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Quick hits from the media-access period in the locker room Monday:

1. A quiet day in the room following Sunday's loss in Pittsburgh and a lot of players passed on the opportunity to chat with reporters. Safeties James Ihedigbo and Patrick Chung drew large media crowds.

2. While Ihedgibo was adamant that Sunday's effort didn't properly represent what the Patriots' defense is capable of, Chung stressed there were positives to be found on film review. "[I'm] definitely encouraged. We played a good game. [The Steelers] just played a better one. They had more big plays than we did. We played a good game, they played a better game, and they got the best of us."

3. Rookie cornerback Ras-I Dowling made a surprising appearance at his locker after emerging from the cornerbacks meeetings. Placed on season-ending injured reserve this past weekend, Dowling was asked if he wanted to answer a few questions, but politely declined before exiting.

4. Cornerback Malcolm Williams, the team's seventh-round pick who signed for three days last week before being cut again, still has his locker stall set up, which seems to suggest the possibility of a potential return down the road if a spot opens. Meanwhile, the locker stall of Leigh Bodden, who a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter went unclaimed on waivers and will have his full 2011 salary paid by the Patriots, has been completely gutted.
